Six weeks from today, I'll be on a plane! I can't believe how quickly this summer has flown by. Lots of exciting things have happened in the past couples of weeks, so I thought I'd post a little update about what's going on around here.
Travel
We officially bought my plane ticket last week! At 6am on September 16th, I'll be boarding my plane in Fresno and I'll officially be on my way!
Finances
The Lord is providing! Thanks to YOU, I have raised $5,384 of my $9800 total. I'm over halfway there! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has supported me in this way. You are now a part of what God will be doing in my heart and through my hands in the DR. I am so excited to see the ways He will use your faithfulness.
This does leave $4,416 left to raise in the next six weeks. If you would like to consider supporting me financially, you can do so by clicking the "Give" link at the top of your screen. All donations are tax-deductible and so very appreciated!
Housing
The Lord has provided housing for the coming year! Thanks to SI staff members already in the country (shoutout to Eric Miller), I have a place to live. I will be living with a local family for about the first month, and then will move in with two SI staff girls for the remainder of the year. I am so grateful for the hospitality of these people who don't even know me yet, but would offer me a place to stay. I can't wait to begin building these relationships!
Prayer Requests
- Preparations: Please be praying for the next 6 weeks as I prepare to go. It's a very busy season, and I want to be faithful where I am and prepare well for the next season. Please pray that I would find space to allow the Lord to prepare my heart for this transition.
- Leaving Well: I only have 4 weeks left at my current job, and it has started to set in that I'll be saying goodbye to my students at the end of this month. The "lasts" have begun (last worship night, last summer camp, last high school ministry event, etc.). and so have conversations about things I'll be missing out on (graduations, friends' babies growing, etc.). Please pray for my heart, as it is already feeling the pull of saying goodbye.
- Grad School Applications: I would love prayer for the application process for my master's programs. There are a lot of documents to collect, essays to write, and fine details to nail down... most of which I would like to wrap up before I get on the plane. I so desire to be faithful in both pursuits, and do not want details at home to distract from what the Lord has for me in ministry this year.
- My first month: I would love prayer for my first month in the DR. For that first few weeks, I will be living with a Spanish-speaking family, and my site leader is also primarily Spanish-speaking. It will be a "dive in head first" approach to language and culture learning, and I am excited for the challenge! Pray that I would lean into this experience rather than avoiding the challenging moments.
- My heart: Please pray that the Lord would be softening and preparing my heart for what He has. I am in a season when there are many lies that Satan would have me believe; please pray that God would shield my heart from these lies and give me the ability to cling to Truth.
-Support: Lastly, as I shared above, I am about $4,400 from my fundraising goal. Please pray with me that the Lord would continue to provide financially.
Thank you all for partnering with me on this journey! I so value your prayers and encouragement! If you aren't able or would prefer not to support me financially at the moment, but would like to commit to praying for my time overseas, I would love to send you a little prayer card for your fridge/desk/family picture wall. ;) Please send me your address and I'd be happy to stick one in the mail for you!
